Program

Protect the Quabbin

Last year, Gov. Deval Patrick declared a moratorium on new logging around the Quabbin Reservoir. But to safeguard our drinking water, Gov. Patrick needs to ban all commercial logging around the reservoir — permanently.

Program

Protect the Massachusetts Coast

Plastic pollution litters our ocean coast from Crane Beach to Cape Cod National Seashore— threatening whales, seals, birds, clams, sea turtles and all of our marine wildlife. Environment Massachusetts is urging Massachusetts' leaders to phase out the most wasteful and unnecessary form of this trash by banning disposable plastic bags.

Program

Protect Our Rivers and Beaches

Countless gallons of untreated sewage pour into our waters every year, forcing beaches to close, tainting our drinking water, and making fish unsafe to eat. The EPA can fix this problem by updating clean water standards, but polluters and their allies are threatening to block them. To protect all Massachusetts' waters, we need to show massive public support for clean water.

Program

Go Solar Massachusetts

Massachusetts is at the forefront of solar policy in the country, but we can do even better. The Bay State has tremendous solar potential, and solar power technology has never been more viable. That's why we believe Massachusetts can install 50,000 new solar roofs by 2020. But powerful utilities, coal and oil companies threaten to stand in the way.

Program

Global Warming Solutions

Governor Deval Patrick and officials from other Northeast states are gearing up to make changes to the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI), the Northeast region’s landmark pollution program. RGGI caps global warming emissions from power plants and invests in clean energy. With your support, we can convince state officials to strengthen the program so that Massachusetts cuts more pollution and generates more clean energy.

Program

Get Massachusetts Off Oil

The environmental costs of our oil dependence are out of control — from the accidents and spills, to smog, to climate change. It's time to set this country on a path to getting off oil for good. We can get there by convincing our leaders to make new investments in fuel-efficient cars, new technology, and a first-class system of public transportation.

Program

Conservation Massachusetts: Protect the Connecticut River

The Connecticut River and its surrounding landscapes are a natural jewel in western Massachusetts. The river’s watershed provides precious habitat for hundreds of species of birds, fish and mammals. It is a special destination for Massachusetts families who visit to watch birds like the Bald Eagle, boat on the river, or hike the hills and woodlands along its banks.

Program

Conservation Massachusetts: Protect the Cape Cod National Seashore

The Cape Cod National Seashore has some of our state’s most beautiful scenery, from the high dunes at Marconi Beach in Wellfleet to the sunsets at Race Point in Provincetown. And it’s no wonder. Since they were made part of the National Park System in John F. Kennedy’s presidency, the nearly 40 miles of beach in the National Seashore have enjoyed special protection, as has the Seashore’s diverse plant and animal life—including 32 rare or endangered species, like the piping plover.

Program

Coal-Free Massachusetts

Coal-fired power plants endanger our health, pollute our environment and fuel global warming. It's time to get off coal, and Massachusetts can accomplish this using policy tools already in place. We're building the public support it will take to make the commonwealth coal-free by 2020.

Program

Clean Air, Healthy Families

New EPA clean air standards will cut mercury pollution by 90% and save 46,000 lives each year. The coal industry and their friends in Congress are trying to roll back these standards, but we’re urging Congress to let EPA do its job and move forward with its commonsense plan to protect public health.
