Tuesday, local environmentalists will join representatives from MASSPIRG Education Fund and Environment Massachusetts Research and Policy Center to release a new report that includes data on how nuclear power threatens the state's drinking water.

The official report will be released at noon, Tuesday, Jan. 24 at the Lobster Pound in Manomet. The press conference will include comments from MASSPIRG's Patrick Nagle, Mackenzie Clark of Environment Massachusetts, Anna Baker of Pilgrim MUST, Mary Lampert of Pilgrim Watch and Pine Dubois from the Jones River Watershed Association.

This report comes less than a a week after Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station reported that some some ports of its Safety Parameter Display System was not working due to “potential problems” with the plant’s computer system.

According to the Manomet Current Pilgrim Nuclear Power station notified the Nuclear Regulatory Commission of the issue that happened late Friday night. According to the statement, some of the information the SPDS provides was not available. The problem “has the potential to impair...safety assessment capability.”

"Immediate actions are being taken to restore the system to functional status and applicable plant procedures have been entered to determine any further mitigating actions. This event had no impact on the health and/or safety of the public," the report stated.
