Boston – Environment Massachusetts released its federal scorecard today, evaluating how the state’s congressional delegation has voted on clean air, clean water, and other environmental protections.

In the scorecard, absences count against a member’s score.

Environment Massachusetts State Director Ben Hellerstein released the following statement:

“The country is very polarized these days on many issues, including the need to protect our environment. It shouldn’t be this way, and it hasn’t always been. I’m pleased to say that in Massachusetts, our members of Congress are all on the same page when it comes to our air and water.

“Nationally, the average score for senators was only 48 percent, while representatives scored 45 percent on average. This does not bode well for our environment. Here in Massachusetts, our two senators voted for the planet 100 percent of the time and our House delegation averaged 98 percent — among the best environmental leaders in Congress.

“We can be especially proud that eight members of the Massachusetts delegation voted in favor of environmental protections 100 percent of the time, which means our planet and our families are represented by a lot of real environmental champs.

“Massachusetts voters have true champions in D.C. when it comes to standing up for our air, our water, and our families. Here’s hoping that our delegation continues to show strong and effective leadership for the core environmental values so many of us share.”
